Fidler to the Crimson 1/24/2012

Congratulations to New England Nordique Trevor Fidler on his commitment to Harvard University. Fidler, a Watertown, MA native is Dexter’s leading scorer with a 14-21-35 in fourteen games. Fidler, a ’95 birth year played this past summer for the ’95 Nordiques who competed in the Junior Chowder Cup. It is unclear what year he will matriculate to Harvard. There were other schools in the mix including Boston College, Boston University, UNH, Northeastern, and UMass Amherst. Congratulations to Trevor and his family!
Kulevich Commits to Colgate 1/24/2012

Congratulations to New England Nordique, Jake Kulevich on his commitment to Colgate. Kulevich, a Marblehead, MA native, is a PG a Berkshire School in Sheffield, MA. A 2/13/1993 birth date, Kulevich has a 1-7-8 line in eighteen games for the Bears. Before his PG year, Kulevich played at Marblehead High School. He will need a year of juniors before heading to Colgate.

Three Nordiques have been rated by NHL Central Scouting and will be focused on for this June’s NHL draft. Cam Darcy, a Northeastern recruit, has been ranked the 20th best skater in the USHL for the draft. Darcy, a member of the U18 NTDP team, is a highly skilled forward who will make plays and score goals. Jon Gillies, also a Northeastern recruit, is currently in his second year with the Indiana Ice (USHL). Gillies, a ’94 Nordique, has been rated the number one USHL goalie eligible for this June’s draft and should eb a very high draft pick. Shayne Gostisbehere, currently playing for Union College, has been rated a “C” rated skater eligible for the draft. Gostisbehere is a highly skilled offensive defenseman who showcased his talents for the Neponset Valley River Rats last fall and the South Kent School in the winter. Good luck to all three Nordiques!
Kurker Chooses Boston University 8/29/2011

Congratulations to New England Nordique, Sam Kurker, on his commitment to Boston University. Kurker, a 1994 birth year, was selected to play for the U.S. U18 Select Team that competed at the Ivan Hlinka Tournament a few weeks ago. A Reading, MA native, Kurker will return to St. John’s Prep to play this winter along with playing for the Boston Little Bruins in the fall. Kurker has been named captain at St. John’s Prep for the upcoming season. Congratulations to Sam and his family!
Rufo Also a Friar 8/24/2011

Congratulations to New England Nordique forward, Niko Rufo, on his commitment to Providence College for the fall of 2013. Rufo, a Stoneham, MA native, is making the move to Kimball Union after a year with the Boston Jr. Bruins (empire). For the Junior Bruins, Rufo had an 18-20-38 line for the Junior B National Champions. “The KUA family is excited for Niko, he is a great kid who comes from a great family,” said KUA coach Mike Levine “From a hockey standpoint, he has outstanding skill, is terrific around the net, and his athleticism really shows on the ice.” Rufo, a ’94 birth year, played for the U16 Neponset Valley River Rats in the 2009-2010 season for owner Frank O’Connor; that team was Massachusetts Select League Champions and played at Nationals. He will be playing for Jon Hutcheon this fall for the U18 Neponset Valley River Rats. Congratulations to Niko and his family!
Ellis Commits to Providence 8/24/2011

Congratulations to New England Nordique goalie, Nick Ellis, on his commitment to Providence College for the fall of 2013. Ellis, a 1/18/1994 birth date, is currently going into his junior year at Pomfret and his second year with the U18 Neponset Valley River Rats. “Nick’s a great goalie whose come a long way this summer,” said River Rats Coach Jon Hutcheon, “his athleticism and quickness really set him apart from other goaltenders his age.” Ellis, a Millersville, Maryland native, played in two tournaments for the U20 Nordiques this past summer and has committed to play for the U20 Nordiques again next summer. Congratulations to Nick and his family!
98s Win the Mini Chowder Cup 7/17/2011

The ’98 New England Nordiques White team has won the Mini Chowder Cup. The weekend started with a hard fought 2-0 win against Select Skills Stars where some final minute heroics were sparked by a goal by Adam Karashik (Mid Fairfield Blues) on a terrific feed from Greg Printz (Team Maryland) with just a couple minutes remaining. The second game of the tournament was a 4-0 win over the California Clovers with goals coming from Printz, Joe Mizzi (Toronto Marlies), Mike Gurska , and Jonny Folsom (Boston Jr. Eagles). This led to a game against the Mass Mariners to decide who would move on to the Semi-Finals. Nordiques jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals from Folsom & Francesco Luca (Vaughan Kings). At 2-1 going into the second half Cole Gallant (Detroit Little Caesars) sparked the Nordiques with a great breakaway move to go up 3-1 and they did not look back from there. Logan Stanley (Waterloo Wolves) & Mizzi finished off the scoring and gave the Nordiques a 5-2 victory. In the semi-finals in a penalty filled game the Nordiques were able to fend off Pro Prospects ‘98s with a 4-1 victory with goals from Luca, Printz and a pair from Mizzi. This win gave the Nordiques an opportunity to play against the Peewee Quebec Champion, New York Jr. Rangers. In a back and forth game that saw 4 ties and 5 lead changes the Nordiques fought hard and were able to come out on top 5-4. Chase Campbell (Waterloo Wolves) took charge scoring a game tying goal with 6 minutes left on the clock as well as a game winner with less than 4 minutes remaining. Other Nordiques goals were scored by Luca, Folsom & Gallant. Excellent play in net all weekend from Ryan Edquist led him to being named Tournament MVP with two shutouts and a goals against average of 1.40 on the weekend. Zach Solow (South Florida Alliance) and Francesco Luca were also on the All-Tournament Team. Congratulations to the New England Nordiques ‘98s on a great championship win!
99s Win Boston Icemen Icebreaker 6/26/2011

The Nordiques started out the tournament Friday afternoon with a victory over the Washington Warriors 5-1. That night the Nordiques suffered a tough loss to The Boston Icemen 3-1 after a back and forth game. Saturday the team seemed to click opening up day two with a 10-0 victory over the Mass Attack. Saturday night the Nordiques came to play and beat the Montreal Jr Lions 8-1. The first time the 99 Nordiques has beat the Jr Lions in 3 years. The Nordiques secured the 2nd playoff spot and played the Icemen Sunday morning. This time the Nordiques carried the play and beat a very strong Icemen team 4-1. In the finals the Nordiques wrapped up a very good weekend by defeating the top seed Minot Sharks 5-1. Thank you everyone for an enjoyable weekend.
Predators Draft Noonan 6/25/2011

Congratulations to Garrett Noonan on being drafted by the Nashville Predators in the fourth round of the 2011 NHL Draft. Noonan, a current player at Boston University, had a great freshman year for the Terriers with a 4-11-15 line in thirty-eight games. The 6 foot 200 pound defenseman, Noonan played at Catholic Memorial and then moved onto the BCHL where he played for the Vernon Vipers. Noonan’s older brother, Coleman, is also a former Nordique and will be playing professionally in Denmark next year.
Brickley Earns a Tryout 6/14/2011

New England Nordique, Connor Brickley has been selected to tryout for the U.S. 2012 World Junior Championships team. Brickley, a Florida Panthers draft pick, will tryout for the team for the second consecutive year. A current player at the University of Vermont, Brickley finished with a 4-9-13 line in 35 games for the Catamounts. Brickley, an Everett, MA native, played his junior hockey for the Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL) and played his prep school hockey at Belmont Hill. He was also recently selected in the 7th round of the QMJHL Draft by the Saint John Sea Dogs. Congratulations to Connor!
Florentino Committs to Providence 6/13/2011

Congratulations to New England Nordique, Anthony Florentino, on his commitment to Providence College for the fall of 2013. Florentino, a West Roxbury, MA native, just finished up his first season at South Kent where he had a 5-10-15 line from the blue line for the Cardinal. A 1/30/1995, Florentino will return to South Kent for his junior season and will be playing for the U16 Neponset Valley River Rats in the fall. “ Couldn’t be happier for Anthony. He made his decision based on all aspects of college hockey and I firmly believe he found the perfect fit with a staff that is proven to work hard and achieve their lofty goals on a national level” said South Kent Coach Eric Soltys. Florentino is the first Nordique to commit to Providence College. Congratulations to Anthony and his family!
Nordiques Win Monarchs Summer Showdown 6/5/2011

Congratulations to the U20 New England Nordiques for their championship at the 2011 NH Jr. Monarchs Summer Showdown. Brendan Collier, a Boston University recruit, scored the clinching goal in a shootout against Hockey Essentials for a 1-0 win. The Nordiques started the weekend out with a 6-1 win over Monarchs Black. The line of Joe Giordano, Adam Erne, and Matt Baldino had a huge game against the Monarchs. On Saturday morning, the U20s knocked off Monarchs Prospects 4-2. Saturday night was a battle against the Boston Jr. Bruins. The u20s blew a 3-0 lead before exploding for three in the last six minutes against the Bruins en route to a 6-3 win. The quarterfinal was a battle against Wildcats Elite where Brendan Collier exploded for three goals and an assist in a 6-2 win. The semi final was a contest between two major rivals. The Beantown Bullies, loaded with talent, was a major test for the U20s. Devin Tringale got the overtime winner on a great pass from Jake Schechtor giving the U20s a 2-1 win and a shot at a championship. The final was an up and down affair with Hockey Essentials carrying much of the play. Jon Gillies, a Northeastern recruit, was stellar in net making save after save. The shootout was lead off with a save by Gillies followed by a goal scored by Tyler Whitney. Hockey Essentials would tie it after that. It came down to Brendan Collier who beat the Hockey Essentials goal with a back hand under the bar. On defense, Nelson Pulling, Christian Pomarico, and Andrew Crawford were a physical force. Up front, Garrett White, Anthony Flaherty, and Brian Miller played very well offensively and defensively. Congratulations again to the U20 Nordiques!
Eight Nordiques Drafted into the QMJHL 6/4/2011

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League held its annual draft on Saturday June 4, 2011. six Nordiques were selected in the draft; the highest number of Nordiques ever drafted into the QMJHL. In the first round, Brandon Shea was drafted 13th overall by the Moncton Wildcats. Shea, a Boston College recruit and 95 birth date, finished 3rd in scoring at Nobles this past season with a 16-18-34 line in his second season. Shea, a Marshfield, MA native, is slated to head out to Ann Arbor, MI next fall to play for the U.S. NTDP. In the 2nd round, Adam Erne was drafted 22nd overall by the Halifax Mooseheads. Erne, a Boston University recruit and 95 birth date, was a part of the U20 Nordiques triumph in the Monarchs Summer Showdown. Erne played this past season for the Indiana Ice (USHL) and posted a 10-8-18 line in his rookie season with the Ice. Alexander Centis-Jorge was drafted in the 3rd round by the Moncton Wildcats. Centis-Jorge played in the Mini Chowder Cup in 2009 for the 95 Nordiques. In the 7th round, Connor Brickley was selected by the Memorial Cup champions Saint John Sea Dogs. Brickley, a 2nd round draft pick by the Florida Panthers, just finished up his freshman season at the University of Vermont. For the Catamounts, Brickley played in thirty-five games and finished with a 4-9-13 line. Saint John then drafted another Nordique, Ryan Segalla in the 8th round. Segalla, a Hanover, MA native, played this season at Salisbury School and finished with a 3-10-13 line from the blue line. Look for Segalla in a Nordiques uniform this summer. In the 9th round, Jon Gillies was drafted by the Quebec Remparts. Gillies, a Northeastern recruit, played this past season for the Indiana Ice (USHL) after playing at the Salisbury School. He finished his rookie campaign with a 2.82 GAA and a .906 SVP in 25 games. Gillies was the backbone of the Nordiques team that just won the Monarchs Summer Showdown and was also the goalie who led owner, Frank O’Connor’s. Neponset Valley River Rats team to a state championship in 2009. Long time Nordique, Cam Darcy was selected in the 10th round by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Darcy, a Northeastern recruit, is currently playing for the U.S. NTDP where in thirty-seven games he had a 9-4-13 line competing in the USHL. Darcy began play for the Nordiques in the summer of 2008. The final Nordique selected in the QMJHL draft was, Boston University recruit, Matt Grzelcyk. Grzelcyk, a Charlestown, Ma native, is also with the U.S. NTDP after playing at Belmont Hill. He had a 1-9-10 line in 36 games from the blue line while competing in the USHL. Congratulations to all of these Nordiques selected in the 2011 QMJHL Draft.
Boston Globe Names Three Nordiques All- Scholastics 4/5/2011
Congratulations to New England Nordiques’ Mike Vecchione, Brendan Collier, and Mike Doherty on being named Boston Globe All- Scholastics. Vecchione, a UNH recruit, was named an Athlete of the Year by the Globe. For the Malden Catholic Lancers, Vecchione had 82 points leading his team to its first Super 8 title. Vecchione will matriculate to UNH in the fall of 2012 after playing a year of juniors. Collier, a Boston University recruit, had thirty goals for the Lancers this past winter. His key goal came in the Super 8 finals as he scored the game winner in overtime. Collier will be with the Nordiques for his fourth summer starting with the Pre Draft Showcase May 6-8. He also plays his midget hockey for the GBL Bruins under Coach John Flaherty. Doherty, a Yale recruit, is a very talented player who plays for the Groton School in the ISL. This past winter, Doherty finished the season with a 28-27-55 line for Groton and was named the Eberhart League player of the year. Doherty, a Reading, MA native, will be playing with the Nordiques for his second summer starting with the Pre Draft. Congratulations to these three Nordiques!

Tringale to Harvard 2/23/2011

Congratulations to New England Nordique, Devin Tringale, on his commitment to Harvard University for the fall of 2013. Tringale, a Medford, MA native, is currently a junior at Lawrence Academy where he has 13-22-35 line for the Spartans. During the 2009-2010 Fall, Tringale was a captain for owner, Frank O’Connor’s, Neponset Valley River Rats team. That team won the Massachusetts State Championship and went on to play in Chicago for the National Championship. Tringale, a 9/21/1993 birth date, will not be draft eligible until June of 2012 where he could be an NHL Draft Pick. The other schools he was considering were Brown, Providence, Boston College, and Princeton. Congratulations to Devin and his family!
